Donate to MJ's Kidney Transplant Recovery

My name is Marie Janelle Tacloban-Moore, but most people call me MJ for short. In February of 2021, I was diagnosed with two types of rare genetic kidney diseases: focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) and Alport Syndrome. These chronic kidney diseases (CKD) affect the function of the kidneys and eventually lead to end-stage renal disease, which leads to dialysis and/or transplantation. Due to the silent nature of the disease, I was already at the later stages of CKD (Stage 3B) when I was diagnosed at the age of 24. Four and a half years later, I've reached end-stage and in need of a kidney transplant. Since the beginning of the year, I've undergone evaluation for a kidney transplant at Miami Transplant Institute in Jackson Memorial Hospital (Miami, FL). Recently, I was given the news that my father-in-law is a match, which means I will be receiving a new kidney soon! Since my husband, Matthew, will be my caregiver for a few months post-op, he will be on FMLA leave for 8 weeks with reduced pay. As a single household income, this is a huge financial burden for us in addition to the medical bills we have received and are continuing to receive. Funds will go towards medical-related expenses, post-op recovery, and ongoing weekly appointments (2-3/week for 3 months). Thank you for your generosity and helping us throughout this difficult (yet exciting) time.
