Hi, everyone. My name is Theron Moore, and I’m reaching out to ask for help for my friend, Mike Stassen,who’s courageously fighting stage four colon cancer. Mike has spent thirty-three years as a commercial fisherman, specializing as a longliner catching halibut and black cod in the rugged waters of Alaska and along the West Coast. He’s a devoted fisherman,buyer,father,husband , my friend and brother ,who’s worked tirelessly to support his family and community, and now he’s facing his biggest battle yet.

About Mike’s Journey:

One year ago, Mike was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer. He underwent a successful colon resection surgery and started chemotherapy for multiple liver lesions. In June, he traveled to the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix for a liver resection surgery, but unfortunately, additional liver tumors were found, making the surgery impossible. He was advised to continue with chemotherapy, with no further surgical options available.

A New Hope – Histotripsy Treatment:

Thankfully, Mike found hope at Swedish First Hill Hospital, where Dr. Mohamed Alassas offers a new treatment called Histotripsy. This cutting-edge procedure could be life-saving, specifically designed for people like Mike with no other options to address metastatic liver tumors. If successful, it could open doors to further treatments or surgeries that aren’t possible right now.

Why Mike Needs Our Help:

Mike’s insurance company denied coverage for this too new, but essential, life-saving procedure, which means he’s left to cover it out of pocket. The Histotripsy treatments costs roughly $54,000 each and possibly more than one will be needed. This along with on going chemotherapy, Dr’s appointments, more surgeries, & travel expenses, the financial burden is more than he can carry alone.
