Michael served over seven years in the Air Force including tours in Saudi Arabia and Iraq. He was in Iraq during the height of the Iraq War residing in the green zone, and outside of terrible violence and many losses of his fellow soldiers and friends during that time, he was exposed for over a year in Baghdad residing next to burn pits working in a Special Police Unit. This has led to long term lung damage and making him susceptible to things like pneumonia and lung infections. He has had multiple issues since leaving the Air Force in 2008. Michael is residing in Cambodia since leaving the Air Force, and due to the weakness of his lungs, he has fallen ill to severe pneumonia after a short battle with COVID-19 recently in July. After four months of struggles, November 10th he was admitted into the ICU and has been there ever since in critical condition. His medical bills have piled up trying to keep him alive, and we are hoping for matching contributions to pay for his time in the ICU a private donor has contributed. We also hope that finally the United States government will start giving Michael the benefits he deserves, but at this point, he has not received any with his lung damage.
