Donate to Mike & Haley's Grocery Store Project

My name is Jesse Whitworth, and I serve as the Chair of the Food Access and Awareness Action Group in Johnson, VT. Our group came out of the recent Re-Imagine Johnson community event organized by the Vermont Council on Rural Development with the goal of helping Johnson recover from the flood that destroyed Sterling Market. Our group is dedicated to addressing food security challenges and creating sustainable, community-driven solutions to improve access to fresh, healthy, and affordable food in our community.

I’m thrilled to introduce one of our members, Michael Mignone, a long-time Johnson resident and the passionate entrepreneur behind Hangry Mike’s Food Truck. Mike has built a reputation for his hands-on, action-oriented approach, offering delicious, locally-inspired fare. Mike has diverse experience running businesses and working in the food industry. You may know him already or maybe you have seen his food truck or the recent story in Seven Days "Hangry Mike's Food Truck Launches in Johnson."

Mike and his wife Haley are now taking his vision a step further by leading the charge to launch a local grocery store inside the recently vacated Get Yours building on VT-15. This project has the potential to return an essential resource to our town and help us foster a stronger, more connected community.

The grocery store plans to stock both specialty and commodity goods such as:

  • Pantry and Household Essentials: Staples like rice, pasta, canned goods, and basic cleaning supplies.
  • Dairy and Protein Options: Milk, eggs, cheese, fresh meats, and plant-based alternatives.
  • Fresh Produce and Local Goods: Fruits, vegetables, and products from both local and national farmers.
  • Grab-and-Go Foods: Ready-made meals and snacks for busy families.
  • And much more to come...

100% of the funds raised will go to the active rennovations and the first round of food and supplies that will be stocking the new shelves! If every adult in in town gave $10 we would blow this goal out of the water!

Together, we’re excited to share this vision with you and we invite your support in bringing it to life.

Thank you,

Food Access and Awareness Action Group - Johnson, VT.
