As many of you know, Mia Crownover is an incredible 2.5 year old little girl who has lissencephaly, or smooth brain disease. This life-limiting diagnosis has resulted in seizures, significant aspiration and respiratory risks, and global developmental delays. Despite her many medications and treatments, Mia remains the definition of pure love and sunshine, happily cuddling and babbling her days away as she learns to weight bear and roll over.
One of the best things we can do for Mia is provide her access to intensive therapy throughout the year. This is a model of therapy where Mia would have 3-4 hours of sessions every day for up to 3 weeks. We've done a handful of intensives thus far, and Mia always blows us away with how well she's able to adapt to the grueling schedule and how many gains she makes during the intensive and for weeks after. Most of these sessions are not covered by insurance, and a single intensive can cost as much as $9,800. We're hoping to raise money for Mia's 2026 three intensives.
Any additional funds will be put toward a remodel of a bedroom and bathroom for Mia that will accommodate her wheelchair. Without a bedroom or bathroom on the main floor of the house, we'll need to modify our basement in order to create a safe, accessible space that will be essential as Mia's needs increase.
