Help for The Sudnick Family

f you have met Mason Sudnick, then you have had the joy of meeting one of the most delightful, caring, and fun kids around. He is always one to crack a joke, make a silly comment, or just flash a smile that lights up the room.
As many of you know, Mason has had a really tough last 2 years. In 2022 he got sick with a generic virus landing him in the hospital. After discharge he was suffering from a very debilitating nerve pain disorder. Mason and his Mom lived in Boston for over a month while Mason attended an intensive 7 hour a day rehab program. He had great success but then began fracturing his feet. This is where things became even more difficult. For the past year and a half Mason has been unable to walk or stand due to fractures and bone marrow edema in his feet. This is very painful. He has been in outpatient physical therapy ever since. However, no matter how hard he works the fractures and marrow edema return. Mason has been in a wheelchair consistently and crawls to get around. A few weeks ago a new injury occurred in his back. His scans show numerous isssues like mild degeneration and bulging disks, and even a small compression. This pain has left him almost completely bed bound, only capable of short/assisted trips to use the bathroom and for short PT sessions done on the edge of his bed. He is currently inpatient at Boston Children’s Hospital since June 17. Due to the pain Mason eats in bed. His pain is even worse when upright in any capacity. He is doing PT and OT daily to try and rehab this current injury. The current hope is that Mason will leave Boston Children's and be directly admitted to a rehab hospital out in Boston. There, he would get the specific and focused Physical Therapy care he needs while being treated/followed by medical staff when needed. Hopefully this will break this vicious cycle.
As of right now the Sudnick's and BCH are working with insurance for coverage, hoping for the best. During all of this, Mason's parents are living out in Boston occasionally, making trips home for upkeep and so Jaime can work a few hours at her part time job. After numerous nights in a hotel they quickly realized this is not sustainable. Boston is expensive! They have been trying to stay with extremely generous host families for minimal cost but still incurring costs of travel, parking, food, and all the typical home based bills. The host homes are wonderful but at this time they only have one for about 5 more days. They have more inquiries submitted. We are starting this to try and help the Sudnick’s support their son without letting the finances bring more stress and anxiety to an already tenuous situation.
Mason's dream is to be up and walking for 6th grade and free from pain. Let's help him to try and make that wish come true. #teammason
