Meet Mason, my amazing little nephew that just turned 8 in August!

Mason started experiencing seizures earlier this year and was diagnosed with a cavernous malformation on his left temporoparietal junction. A cavernous malformation is a group of blood vessels that did not form properly. This can result in bleeding on the brain, causing seizures among other symptoms, depending on the location of the lesion. Mason struggled with many seizures a day until receiving medication. He has encountered difficulty in speech, personality changes, and the ability to process thoughts and emotions. The left temporoparietal junction plays a large role in how we perceive language both written and spoken. It also helps us understand self and social cognition such as empathy, sympathy, and the ability to process emotions.

Mason will be having a craniotomy in mid-October to remove the lesion.

I am making this GoFundMe in hopes of taking some of the financial burden away from my brother and sister-in-law. Mason's surgery will be out-of-state and he will be in the hospital afterwards for at least 3-5 days for recovery.
