“Soy mamá, tengo cáncer y quiero vivir: Ayúdame a seguir luchando”

Hola, soy Mariet Rivas, tengo 42 años, soy Asistente de Recursos Humanos, venezolana viviendo en Chile y mamá de una niña de 3 años, mi mayor razón para vivir y luchar cada día.

Hoy me encuentro enfrentando el mayor desafío de mi vida: un cáncer de mama agresivo. En noviembre de 2024, mientras amamantaba a mi hija, noté una masa en mi seno izquierdo. Pensé que era algo relacionado con la lactancia, pero en enero de 2025 decidí acudir al médico. Me realizaron una ecografía y encontraron tres nódulos sospechosos, lo que dio inicio a una larga y difícil serie de estudios. Después de una mamografía y varias biopsias, el 28 de febrero recibí el diagnóstico: Carcinoma Ductal Invasivo Grado 2, tipo HER2 positivo, uno de los más agresivos y actualmente en etapa 3, con ganglios comprometidos en la axila izquierda.

Desde ese momento he tenido que cubrir por mi cuenta muchos exámenes:

• Inmunohistoquímica

• Resonancia magnética

• Mamografías

• Ecografías

• Exámenes de sangre

Todos ellos necesarios para evaluar el avance del cáncer y planificar mi tratamiento. He gastado más de $2,000 solo en diagnósticos.

El tratamiento que debo seguir es urgente e intensivo. El pasado 6 de mayo comencé la quimioterapia, la cual se compone de 8 ciclos (4 ciclos cada dos semanas y 4 ciclos divididos en sesiones semanales)

Durante los ultimos 4 ciclos debo recibir un medicamento especial cuyo costo es de $2,000 por ciclo. Hasta ahora sólo tengo cobertura para los dos primeros, pero necesito cubrir los dos últimos, es decir, $4,000 más.

También debo realizarme un examen genético crucial, con un costo de $500, para saber si existe una mutación que obligaría a extirpar también el seno derecho como medida preventiva.

¿Cuánto necesito?

Estoy pidiendo su apoyo para reunir $11,000, que serán usados para:

• Quimioterapia y medicamentos específicos

• Cirugía y reconstrucción mamaria

• Examen genético

• Estudios médicos complementarios y seguimiento

¿Por qué pido tu ayuda?

Porque quiero vivir, sanar para estar al lado de mi hija. Ella aún es una bebé y me necesita. Quiero verla crecer, acompañarla en cada paso de su vida y luchar por un futuro juntas.

“I am a mom, I have cancer, and I want to live: Help me keep fighting”

Hello, I am Mariet Rivas, I am 42 years old, I am a Human Resources Assistant, Venezuelan living in Chile, and I am the mother of a 3-year-old girl, my biggest reason to live and fight every day.

Today I am facing the biggest challenge of my life: aggressive breast cancer. In November 2024, while breastfeeding my daughter, I noticed a lump in my left breast. I thought it was something related to breastfeeding. In January 2025, I decided to see a doctor. They performed an ultrasound and found three suspicious nodules, which led to a long and difficult series of tests. After a mammogram and several biopsies, on February 28, I received the diagnosis: Invasive Ductal Carcinoma Grade 2, HER2 positive type, one of the most aggressive and currently at stage 3, with affected lymph nodes in the left armpit. Since that moment, I have had to cover many fundamental exams on my own:

• Immunohistochemistry

• MRI

• PET scan

• Ultrasounds

• Blood tests

All of them had been necessary to evaluate the progress of cancer and plan my treatment. I have already spent more than $2,000 out of pocket just on diagnostics. The treatment I must follow is urgent and intensive. On May 6, I started chemotherapy, which consists of 8 cycles (4 cycles every two weeks and 4 cycles divided into weekly sessions)

For the last 4 cycles, I need to receive a special medication which costs about $2,000 per cycle. I only have coverage for the first two. I will need to pay the last two out of pocket, which means paying $4,000. I also need to undergo a crucial genetic exam, costing $500, to see if there is a mutation that would require also removing the right breast as a preventive measure.

How much do I need?

I am asking for your support to raise $11,000, which will be used for:

• Chemotherapy and specific medications

• Surgery and breast reconstruction

• Genetic testing

• Additional medical studies and follow-ups

Because I want to live heal so I can be by my daughter's side. She is still a baby and needs me. I want to see her grow, be by her side in every step of her life, and fight for a future together.
