Hello everyone, I'm reaching out today to ask for your support for my niece, Maria Torres. Maria was recently diagnosed with Stage 4 Stomach Cancer. Since receiving the life-changing news on Mother's Day of May 2024, she has been bravely battling this disease, undergoing rigorous chemotherapy and Apdevo infusion treatments. Maria has undergone multiple surgeries and procedures, including the most recent on January 9th, 2025. The 14-hour surgery ended in a full hysterectomy, gallbladder removal, and 90% of her stomach removed. Unfortunately, the surgery did not eliminate all of the cancer, and she must continue to fight with more rounds of chemotherapy. These procedures have taken a significant toll on her, both physically and emotionally.
This is the beginning of a long journey to try and achieve full recovery with the hope to one day be in remission. Maria is a wife, mother, and the sole caregiver for her mother and two sisters. This diagnosis has created an immense financial burden on her family. Maria's mother and two sisters are mentally disabled individuals who require constant care and attention. Without Maria to care for them, it has put a major burden on her husband and three children to help care for them and maintain the household. Maria has two daughters and an 11-year-old son. Her youngest daughter has recently made Maria a grandmother to a beautiful baby boy. This precious little one brings Maria so much joy and an intense desire to keep fighting!
Maria has always had a big, kind heart. She's a strong, compassionate, and amazing person who continues to put others before herself. She is facing this challenge with incredible courage and resilience. The medical expenses associated with her treatment include surgeries, medications, and ongoing care that are mounting quickly. Any contribution, no matter how small, will make a significant difference in paying bills and expenses and would help Maria and her family during this challenging time. Even just sharing this, to reach as many people as possible, will help. Thank you for your compassion, prayers, and generosity.
Sincerely, Guadalupe (Lupe) Peterson
