I am writing to share an urgent situation regarding Marcelo Cardoso, who sustained a significant brain injury after a fall from a horse at the June OBS 2-year-old in training sale on June 12, 2025. The horse suffered a catastrophic injury, leading to Marcelo's severe accident. Marcelo was in a coma for approximately 4.5 weeks and is now beginning to wake up. He faces a long and challenging recovery journey. Currently, he is experiencing speech deficits and weakness as he is learning how to stand and walk. He is receiving intensive rehabilitation at Brooks Rehabilitation Hospital in Jacksonville, FL. Complicating his recovery, Marcelo does not have health insurance. He and his family are facing a long road ahead, as he will likely require physical and speech therapy for the unknown future.
