Donate to Mabel's Knee Surgery

My name is Carolyn and I adopted Mabel less than 2 years ago from HARTT. HARTT found her living on the streets in Phoenix under an Amazon security trailer with her puppies (Mabel was barely a year old). They trapped her and her puppies, giving them shelter, food, and a chance at life. Meanwhile, I was going through some very difficult life changes: divorce, empty nester, selling my home/moving into a new home, losing 3 out of 4 of my dogs (2 crossed over Rainbow Bridge and the other my ex got). The remaining dog, Helen, became depressed and began hiding in the closet due to all the changes and loss she went through. So I said, if another dog came across my path that was a good fit for my Helen, I'd be open to another dog. Well, that's when Mabel (aka Sita) came across my social media page. Her face caught my eye along with her bio. So Helen became her big sister. Little did I know that Mabel had an existing condition that would require surgeries. She has luxating patellas. Doctors say her kneecaps never sat in the grooves as she has little to zero grooves for the patellas to move normally in. Basically, her knees sat off to the side outside of the groove 100% of the time. She was born this way, unfortunately, living in pain and not being able to run, jump, or play without pain. So within the first six months of adopting her, she had surgery on the left knee. The cost was roughly $5000. I'm still trying to pay this off months later.

My goal was to pay off her first surgery before doing her right knee. Well, that didn't align very well as she started limping more and more until she couldn't put much weight on the right leg anymore. So today she went into surgery to fix her right knee. Turns out that it was not only a patella/groove fix, it included an ACL tear repair. Her surgeon said that this knee was so tight he had troubles getting it into the new groove and having it stay there. He said most likely she will need physical therapy to gain a good range of motion to hopefully live a normal life, hopefully pain-free as she has no idea what that's like yet.

I am asking for your help to get this second surgery paid. I am struggling to make ends meet without this too. Mabel and I appreciate any amount you can donate to her surgery cost.

I, her mom, cannot thank you enough for your donations!
