update - Jan 2026:
Dear loved ones,
It has been quite a journey for my mom, and as I watch her adjust to the outcomes of the procedures and therapies, I feel this thankfulness and pride in my heart&soul. Mom has successfully entered into the remission stage as of late last year, and we could not be any more relieved. The journey is still ongoing, as life post-cancer is never truly the same, but I wanted to let you all know that Lucy is doing well and living each day to the fullest. We could not be more thankful to those that contributed to us, whether via donation, or with your visits, words of encouragement, texts, check-ins. thank you thank you THANK YOU!
May 2026 be a year of healing, happiness and family <3.
Hello family and friends,
We need your help. For the last 2 years, my mom, known to you as Dona Lucero or Lucy, has been quietly and courageously battling a few medical monsters. Let me start at the beginning:
In early 2024, Lucy went to a dermatologist for a check up on some simple facial imperfections/stains. What was a routine check-up became an impactful day for my mom, as one of the findings on her face was Squamous Cell Carcinoma, and it was aggressive and invasive. Though the name was long, the fight was (thankfully) short. After a journey through doctors, hospitals and recommendations, my mom put on her warrior gloves and made the decision to move forward with surgical removal of the cancerous area on her nose/inside upper lip, that she has since recovered from and remains cancer free in that area(no regrets!). While she is living with remnants of the serious procedure, she is thankful to be alive. However, during one of the exams for this SCC on her face, a cat scan revealed a concern, a growing mass on her upper right lung. She then underwent countless x rays, cat cans, a Petscan and a biopsy that eventually led to another dreaded finding in 2025, confirmation of lung cancer, Stage 2 due to its size. Again, my mom bore her gloves and again, she took the fight to the ring, the OR ring. I am proud to say that on July 14, 2025, my mom underwent what is now confirmed as a successful lobectomy, the removal upper right upper lobe, which was infected with the Cancerous mass.
Present day: mom is now ready to face her next journey: adjuvant chemotherapy. After all of this tremendous fight she’s put, she’s got just a way to go before being able to conquer these monsters.
With all this being said, the unfortunate side to her battles is the reality of the financial burden that comes with it. My family and I can no longer keep up with the bills that have come in and are yet to come. We can only get so much support through insurance before our responsible percentage is requested. We humbly ask of you, if there’s anything that you can spare to aide in my mother’s fight against Cancer, we are incredibly grateful in indebted to you.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and for your thoughts, prayers, wishes and contributions.
With love and hope,
Shirley, Alex, Piki and Beto
Lucy’s Loving Children
