IN LIEU OF DONATIONS, IF THERE IS ANYONE WHO NEEDS A CONSTRUCTION LABORER, DRYWALL, MASONRY, ETC. MY HUSBAND IS MORE THAN WILLING TO WORK. HE JUST CANNOT FIND ANYTHING AND IT MAY BE DUE TO NOT HAVING A DRIVERS LICENSE.
I want to thank everyone who donated thus far, we appreciate it so, very much. We have almost half of the money needed to help! God bless each and every one of you!! You don't know how much we appreciate your help! My husband was able to work 3-days, which helped too! If you have any full-time positions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
My name is Lora (Lori) and my husband and I have lived in Winchester, Virginia for 26 years. We love the area and the people. The schools are the best. They really care about their students and their families.
In December of 2024, I lost my job of 16.5 years, as I was working from home due to COVID19. This was ideal as my daughter is very sick. She has epilepsy, a blood disease and cirrhosis of the liver. My employer wanted me back in the office and I tried to find someone to sit with my daughter, however it did not work out, so I tried Medical Assistance and it was not covered. Thank God I was qualified for unemployment insurance. It hurt because I believe they thought I was taking advantage of working from home. I thought they would understand, as they were like family to me.
A week later my husband got laid-off. He is looking for employment daily, however he does not have a license and it's very hard to gain employment without one. I can take him to work and pick him up.
We received a Notice of Non-Renewal of Lease, so I had to find a place to live, as I am also taking care of my two grandchildren, my granddaughter is 14-years old and my grandson is 6-years old. We have lived in the same apartments for over 10-years and have never, ever been late paying rent, until recently. Management had to let that property manager go and asked why she would not renew our lease. I had asked her prior and told them she just said they were going down the "list' and our names were picked.
We just recently received a Notice to Quit/Eviction notice.
In June of 2024, we purchased a 2009 Nissan Altima and it blew-up 6-months later the very same month/year we lost our jobs.
About 2-months ago, on top of all of the other issues she has, my 37-year old daughter was diagnosed with stomach cancer.
My stomach is in knots daily with all of the stress and pain of the thought of losing my daughter. Everyday I think it may be the last day we have her with us.
I have never done anything like this and have never had to ask for help and I wouldn't even ask if it wasn't for my grandchildren. I am used to giving, not taking.
My grandchildren have been through a lot. My granddaughter received an award at her 8th Grade Graduation for Endurance, as she received really good grades and had good attendance under the circumstances. We didn't know she was receiving this award, she didn't even know. Needless to say, I cried like a baby.
Anything would help and we would be very grateful (words could not express how grateful) for any help you can give.
Again, if you need help with construction, or anything for that matter, my husband is more than willing to work. We wouldn't need any donations.
Thank you, in advance, from our family,
Lori
