Hi! My name is Liz. I’m about to be a student at Flagler College as a Coastal Environmental Science major. I’m starting this gofundme to help pay for the remainder of my tuition for this upcoming school year. $1,501 is due the 15th of each month for the next 4 months, making my next deadline in less than 2 weeks.

Some back story: Back in my freshman year of high school when I first started thinking about college, I was told by my father that I have a college fund that my grandfather has been putting money in since I was a baby. I have been living through every day thinking I’d have that support to help me pay for my education. Early in my senior year, I found out from my grandfather that he had taken all of the money from my college fund and used it. I was in a complete loss on what to do, because I always knew what I wanted to study and where I wanted to go to college. He then told me “anything you can’t pay yourself, I will pay for.” I managed to get a lot of this upcoming year paid for, from the help of a second college fund my grandmother had started back in 2012, FAFSA Grants, and Flagler College generously giving me scholarships and grants. I’ve also accepted 2 loans. After I had put in all money I have to cover semester one, I now have $6,004 left to pay for by August 1st. I’ve since found out that my grandfather can only pay for half of each monthly payment. He first said “I’m taking out a loan from the bank.” They declined it. “I will take out investment money.” 2 weeks later, “i can’t get the investment money.” He said my grandma would pay the other half. She just informed me that he only told her it would be one time, and that she cannot help me anymore.

I am at a complete loss. I still have $3k left to pay for. I am fully aware that this is on me for relying on someone who has proven themselves unreliable in the past, however I am also in no financial position to pay for my own tuition out of pocket at 17 years old. My parents grew up with financial struggles my entire life, so after talking to them, they’ve made it clear they cannot afford to help me pay for college.

I know this is a lot to ask, $3k from people who don’t know me. And there are greater problems going on in the world and I always want people to put those first. But if anyone is able to or willing to, I’d so greatly appreciate any help and support I can get.
