I wanted to take a moment and thank everyone who has donated to Lisa's GoFundMe page and I wanted it to take a moment to update everyone on her progress. It has been a long and eventful month. Lisa came home on December 14 and although each day she made significant progress, she was re-admitted to the hospital on December 28 because her body had retained a significant amount of fluid during surgery and it was not being re-absorbed by her body as well as the surgeon hoped. She spent several days back in the hospital. They gave her some medications to help decrease the fluid in her body, specifically around her lungs and heart. She was released again from the hospital just in time to bring in the new year with her family.
As the days and weeks have passed on, she is improving each day. She is having a significant struggle regaining her voice as the intubation caused some temporary damage to her vocal cords. She will be seeking help from a speech therapist with the hope to regain her voice. The next six months will be a trying time for Lisa as she changes her lifestyle and comes to terms with the events that took place.
I set up this gofund me as a way for her friends to help with the medical bills they are being inundated with. Thank you for all the donations. Well wishes and prayers. they are more appreciated than you will ever know. I am reposting this as multiple people have asked where they can send a donation.

On a more personal note...
I hope no one ever has the misfortune of watching their best friend of many years struggle to survive. When you’ve shared countless memories, raised your children together, weathered good times and bad, the thought of losing that person feels unimaginable.
This experience has taught me a powerful lesson: never take the people in your life for granted. Tell them often how much they mean to you. Remind them they’re loved and appreciated, because tomorrow is never promised.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and for any support you can offer, whether it’s through sharing or contributing.
Lori ❤️

This GoFundMe is being set up to help the Skinner family pay medical bills that they will soon be receiving from Lisa's unexpected emergency open-heart surgery.
On the evening of December 6, Lisa Skinner suffered a thoracic aortic aneurysm. This happened at home, and she was immediately transported by ambulance to the hospital. Within three hours of her arrival at the hospital, she was having open-heart surgery for a 7 cm tear in her aorta. This was an incredibly long surgery, lasting into the morning hours. Unfortunately, the very next day, the graft that the surgeon placed on the aorta was bleeding, and she had to have a second open-heart surgery. She is currently in the ICU, but each day is improving bit by bit.
Many people know the Skinner family as they have been active in our community for many years. Ken volunteered with AYSO as a referee and Lisa was active in the PTA for many years at Carlton Hills Elementary School and has run a home daycare in our community for over 20 years. She has dedicated her life to caring for children and helping them grow up to be the best little people that can be. Her absolute passion and joy in her life was raising her daughter Lexi who has been by her side, along with Ken since this happened.
Between the ups and downs of her daily recovery and the financial uncertainty of the medical bills that will follow, her family is under an indescribable amount of stress. I have set this GoFundMe up in hopes to alleviate some of the financial stress and burden.
