This is Kelly and Molly, Leigh’s sisters. We have both been struggling with whether or not to set this up but the more obstacles that are thrown at our brother, the more we knew we needed to do this for him (sorry Leigh, you can kill us later:)). Many people probably aren’t even aware of what he has been struggling with for going on two years now because he isn’t one to feel sorry for himself or lay his problems on others.
About two years ago, he found out he had cancer in his pancreas. He underwent a Whipple surgery, which was brutal and left him unable to work for 8 weeks. We thought he was back on the road to health until he went for a routine follow up scan and he learned that more tumors had popped up in other places. He had to endure another surgery and radiation treatments. He has what he’s called neuroendocrine cancer, this is an inherited form of cancer that is pretty aggressive. Our brother has been going to Moffitt for treatments that knock him down for almost a week after.
He has been quietly pushing through, but about three months ago, his truck blew up (which he desperately depends on for his job), just when he had more than enough on his back to push through and already lots of financial pressure due to high medical bills and missing work. We have watched him struggle, mentally, physically, emotionally and financially and we knew it was time to reach out to his and our villages to ask for help. Which some of his very dear friends have done already by lending vehicles to him (your selflessness will never be forgotten!).
Leigh would be the first to be there to lend a helping hand and we know he has so many treasured friendships and we know he is probably not going to be happy with us for asking for help for him, but we know how much it is needed and want to help him. Any amount anyone can spare would mean the world to him and to us. Let’s also keep our brother in everyone’s prayers, he needs those tremendously as well right now.
