Our girl is getting a new immune system, and that mess is expensive!

Lauren is diagnosed with systemic scleroderma, an autoimmune disorder that causes excess collagen production affecting joints and organs. Patients can have a range of severe symptoms and complications, and you know Lauren is nothing if not an overachiever! Although she’ll constantly make jokes about her condition, she’s fighting her body to make it through every day. Lauren is still working, momming, and posting memes on Facebook full time - because she’s crazy, but also because she refuses to give in.

Lauren plans to undergo a stem cell transfer at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville this fall. It could mean dramatic changes in her quality of life and prognosis. It’s also scary and means a long time away from home, her kids, and her job. Lauren and her family will have travel expenses, lodging during pretesting and outpatient portions, extra child and dog care back home, and numerous other incidental expenses, without her full income. These expenses are already hitting as she prepares to travel for pretesting.
