In November 2024, Lauren was diagnosed with a rare type of squamous cell carcinoma near her left eye. She underwent two surgeries in December. The first surgery was to both biopsy and remove the tumor. Her doctors had never seen a tumor quite like it, so following the official diagnosis, they performed a second surgery to remove her left parotid gland as well as lymph nodes in her face and neck. She then required reconstructive surgery. After 6 weeks of recovery, she started 7 weeks of radiation treatment, which she finally completed on March 26, 2025.

She’ll continue to get various treatments the rest of the year to deal with the effects of surgery and radiation on her left eye and skin - particularly nerves and scarring.

As far as the cancer goes, she has to hang tight until the end of July, when the radiation that is still kicking around in her system should complete its cycle and - fingers crossed - tests will show that she’s cancer-free.
