Dear Family and Friends,
As you have probably already heard, my Zama sister, Laura Whatley, found out her cancer came back about 2-3 weeks ago. The tumor is in such a place it's complicated to get to surgically. So far, an IRT tech and three surgeons have said they can't do it. Her oncologist is contacting Huntsville, Jacksonville, and Orlando surgeons hoping to find a surgeon. She must make several trips to the surgeon who picks up her case. These trips will consist of pre-op, surgery, and post-op appointments. Also, there will be additional lodging as she must stay in town for at least a week after her surgery. The travel and lodging costs aren't only for Laura but also include boarding costs for the cats, pet fees for the dogs to stay with them, and for her sister, Cheryl, to travel with her. Cheryl has been her caretaker since she was first diagnosed last year and continues caring for the house and the pets.
Her oncologist is presenting her case to the tumor board at the Cancer Center next week and then she has an appointment on Wednesday to discuss the next steps of her treatment per the board decision.
This new finding adds a significant financial burden that she wasn't expecting and can not afford. Not only will the trips to the surgeon place a huge strain on her financially, but having to undergo chemo and fight this devil again is too. It's all draining on her, financially, mentally, and emotionally.
She needs to use all her energy to focus on fighting and getting better. Please show her our love and support by donating to her fund so that she won't have to stress and worry about how the bills will be paid.
