Dear Friends, Colleagues, and Fellow Humans,
I’m launching a national podcast called Daunting Discourse, and I need donations to get it off the ground and scale it across the country.
This podcast is urgent, personal, and hopeful. It’s for everyone who wants a better way to talk — and listen — to each other.
Meet Your Hosts
The show is co-hosted by two women — both single moms — living just a few miles apart in rural, peaceful, and now stressed-out central Michigan.
Me, Karin Jenson, age 51: former investigative journalist, lawyer, AI exec, now a homesteader and founder of Two Rivers AI Consulting.
Bree Moeggenberg, age 46: a fierce, principled community voice, Trump diehard, and my neighbor. Bree and I don’t share worldviews, but we do share a belief that conversation can move us forward.
It’s her truck in the picture at my home.
Starting the week of April 7, in Daunting Discourse, Bree and I will take on the toughest topics we are facing — trans rights, AI, education, NPR and PBS, war, financial systems, tariffs, immigration, it goes on — speaking for ourselves, from two opposing perspectives, side by side. We’ll look for common ground.
We’ll be neighborly. As Co-Presidents of Daunting Discourse, we have issued a PO banning disrespect, name-calling, cross-talk, and mansplaining on our podcast or socials. We want real, respectful dialogue about the state of affairs in the United States, an attempt to understand each other’s viewpoints – and a call to action for others to do the same.
Why This, Why Now
I grew up reading old newspapers and demanding to know who found out what happened. By 19, I was working alongside great journalists. I broke news that changed lives. Later came law school, New York City, AI leadership roles, 3x Chief of Staff jobs, a single-parenting journey, and move to Central Michigan to live deliberately in the woods.
I’ve been trained to look across landscapes — and right now, I see crisis. Political division. Social distrust. Economic dislocation. It’s affecting families, schools, businesses, and neighborhoods.
This podcast is my way of getting off the sidelines, and Bree is a champ for agreeing to do it with me.
The future is local.
What We Will Do With the Money
We will build out:
A business plan with marketing and social media support, with a team that can deliver on it super fast. We're starting next week, the week of April 7.
- A Mailbag segment for listener-submitted topics.
- Daunting Discourse Facebook groups in every zip code to help neighbors come out of their houses and work on local problems.
- A toolkit to help listeners use AI for good, right where they live.
How You Can Help
Bree and I are brave to do this. So are you — for reading, for believing, for donating. Every dollar helps us launch, staff, and scale this mission.
Let’s bring this conversation to every town in America. Let’s model a better way to disagree. Let’s build something that feels like home again.
With gratitude,
Karin
