Support for Lacey's Healing Journey

***Update: Lacey has officially been home for about a week now. Insurance refused to cover rehab. She still cannot walk or get around on her own. She has some big doctor’s appointments coming up this week where we will learn more about what to expect in the coming months. The care she received at the hospital was phenomenal. But the healthcare system has failed her big time since she was discharged. Home health and PT have still not gone out to the house at all. We are working on it. She is so glad to be at home, but being stuck immobile has been extremely difficult on her mentally and emotionally. She continues to stay positive but I know her and I know the adjustment is taking its toll! Please continue to pray for her continued improvement and for the doctors making decisions moving forward.***

Hello! I am Ariel Warner, sister of Lacey Fowler Kilgore of LaGrange, GA. Lacey went from being Miss Independent- always loving on and showing up for others- to a situation where we all now need to love on and show up for her.

Lacey has been in the hospital since March 26th. She had a very damaging bowel perforation and developed sepsis and had to undergo a major emergency surgery. Prior to her going back for surgery, we learned that her kidneys were failing and that she is also in later stages of liver failure.

After surgery, she spent a couple of weeks in ICU and was on a ventilator twice. She is undergoing dialysis and we have been told she will need kidney transplants as well as a liver transplant.

To complicate things further, a couple of weeks prior to the start of all this, she began having trouble walking and using her hands. We still don’t know the exact cause of that, but this issue has worsened since she has been bedridden for several weeks.

Recovery seemed to be going fine and she had stepped down into a regular hospital room, but she developed fluid on her lungs and pneumonia. She had to be intubated for the third time and placed back in ICU. She is now back to a regular hospital room. Next steps involve moving her to a rehabilitation facility where she can hopefully regain her ability to walk and use her hands again.

It has been quite scary to say the least- two times we thought we might lose her. Thanks be to God, she is recovering from both instances!!! She has been through so many terrifying situations in the last month and I’m awestruck at how she has fought to stay with us and still managed to keep her sense of humor.

She still has a long road ahead of her, and we (her family) are all dreading the prospect of medical bills, expenses related to her transition back home (likely going to need a lot of assistance, supplies, and mobility devices), and then the prospect of dialysis every couple of days and multiple organ transplants in the coming months.

Our family is working on gathering any resources we can muster amongst ourselves, but we know for certain it just will not be enough.

Any small amount of support you are willing to offer to help Lacey on her journey to recovery will be so deeply appreciated. Of course, if nothing else, please pray for her! Lacey means the world to so many, she could never possibly comprehend. We want to make sure she has as many burdens lifted as we can possibly manage.

Thank you for all the prayers, love and support so far!
