Kyle Urkoski's Healing and Future

On July 22, 2024, Kyle Urkoski was beginning the first day of his new business after a 17-year commitment with his previous construction company. While working in David city, Kyle had a grand mal tonic clinic seizure. He was taken to Butler County health center where he was met by his family. Kyle seemed to be doing well and was discharged on anti-seizure medicine with his wife Laura. Only 10 minutes down the highway, Kyle started having another grand mal tonic clinic seizure in the passenger seat. Kyle was raced back to Butler County health center where a CT revealed thickening of the brain. Kyle was transferred to Saint Elizabeth’s hospital in Lincoln Nebraska. Kyle underwent an MRI of his brain which showed moderate meninges swelling, extending throughout the entire area of his brain. Extreme medications were started, tons of labs drawn, lots of diagnostic imaging and tests done and a spinal lumbar puncture completed. Kyle was intubated Wednesday July 24th and not taken off the vent until Monday July 29. While the hospitalization lasted several days, Kyle was never alone. He was surrounded by his amazing family day and night. Kyle spent a few days with strong physical therapy, helping him do his normal activities of daily living. He will not be able to drive for a minimum of three months since he had the seizures and most likely will not be able to work for an extended period of time.

Kyle has been given a second chance at life and he strongly wants to make lifestyle changes. After discharging from Saint Elizabeth’s Kyle checked himself into Bryan hospital for an inpatient alcohol program. he wants to live the remainder of his long happy life healthy and strong for his family.
