Donate to Kyla's Journey in South Korea

Hi everyone! My name is Kyla, and I’m excited to say that I am planning to study and live abroad in South Korea in February/March 2026!

A short backstory: I have always wanted to teach myself a new language as I always felt it would be in my best interest to be bilingual. I know a little bit of Spanish (thanks high school) but I wanted something more. Earlier this year, I gained interest in Korean media and decided, you know what, let me just teach myself Korean. Yeahhhh my family thought it was going to be pretty short lived (fast forward: it wasn’t!). I’ve been teaching myself Korean for five months and it has already opened my mind to so many different aspects of the language, culture, and honestly the world. So I have decided, why not try it out in real life?

For those who know me, you know I have been dealing with a Crohn’s disease diagnosis since I was 19 years old. In and out of hospital, ERs, numerous surgeries, and everything else. As an almost 23 year old, sitting in those rooms just by yourself makes you ponder and wish what you could be doing if my body wasn’t stopping me. I have worked hard to make myself healthy, and I am now finally! I have been feeling so great and couldn’t be more thankful. Because of the life that I feel I’ve missed, I’ve decided to hop on this opportunity of finally being able to explore while finally feeling good!

So, I am humbly asking for any amount of funds you are willing to donate. I will be going to a Korean university language program (haven’t quite decided which one yet) where I will essentially be going to school to learn how to speak Korean. I, myself, have been actively saving money as soon as I made this decision and have saved already a few thousand in two months, and continue to do so up until the moment I leave. I’ve been living frugal which is hard at my age, but I’m committed to the bit! I’m even looking for a second part time job! However, I still do expect to need a little bit of extra help. The funds would be spread amongst my plane ticket, dorms, living expenses, potential medical care for my injections, certain bills back at home, and even having more for the potential to stay more than just the 6 months and potentially pursue a higher education while I’m there.

So I am humbly writing this in hopes I can have enough funds to be able to live out a dream of mine and start to experience the young adult life that had a rocky start! Thank you very much!

Best,
Kyla
