Hey all! I’m here to ask for support for my very best friend in the world who just got an unimaginable diagnosis of cancer. Not only is cancer itself scary, but she’s got a type that is literally one in a million. What this means is that there are very limited choices for specialists who can manage this surgery and treatment. She has found one of the best surgeons in the world for her tumor removal, and he is in Miami. Kristen will have to travel there, away from home and her work, for at least 2 weeks, more likely a month. During this time, she will be unable to work. Although she has medical benefits to help with the surgery, travel expenses, missed work, and other miscellaneous costs all add up. Please read Kristen’s story below in her own words and consider giving.
I’ve always wondered how people get through the initial shock and overwhelming emotions after hearing the two words we all fear: “it’s cancer.” Well, last week I found out firsthand what that feels like, and let me tell you, I don’t wish that on my worst enemy.
After multiple MRIs, a CT scan, bone scan, and biopsy, I was told I have a chordoma (a very rare, one in a million, bone cancer). After meeting with the surgeon at Mayo this past week, I learned that a good portion of my sacrum and my entire tailbone would have to be removed, and with that comes a lot of risks of nerve damage that affects everyday functions.
This still doesn’t feel like real life, but I am going to fight this shit with everything I have and am so thankful to have a Mayo Clinic in AZ as well as an appointment with one of the top chordoma surgeons in the country this next week.
If you pray, pray for me; if not, please send all the positive vibes you can because the next several months are going to be very difficult, and I need all the prayers and positivity I can get.
Thank you to all of my closest friends and family that have already been rallying for me, and most of all, my amazing parents who have been here to support me every step of the way.
