One of my dearest friends, Krista Harrington, experienced a devastating accident in the early morning hours of Thursday, July 17th. After spending a relaxed evening at my house on Wednesday, she visited another friend’s home.
During what seemed like a friendly moment—sitting together on a couch—the household’s dog (a 100-pound pitbull) suddenly and without warning attacked Krista. This unprovoked assault shattered bones in both of her hands, left deep lacerations across her arms, and caused puncture wounds on her hands, arms, and leg. Terrified, Krista managed to lock herself in a bathroom to escape further harm.
Paramedics arrived after a 911 call and had to begin emergency care through the bathroom window, as the dog remained uncontrollable inside the home. Eventually, help was provided to contain the animal and transport Krista to the hospital. She received two units of blood and lifesaving care. Doctors stabilized her condition and performed surgery the following afternoon. In her right hand, a screw was placed to stabilize a middle‑finger break; in her left, a pointer finger was fractured near the knuckle and her pinkie is broken. In total she has over 60 stitches that cover her hands, arms, and leg. Her arms and legs have also been severely bruised. She is starting the long road to recovery, with a follow‑up appointment later in August to assess if further corrective surgery will be needed.
Before this tragedy, Krista was actively interviewing and applying for jobs, supporting herself through plasma donations. Now, faced with overwhelming medical bills and no income, she also has to manage bills and daily expenses. It feels unjust that someone already suffering from such trauma now faces financial hardship simply for trying to heal.
Krista is one of the strongest people I know. She perseveres through everything life throws at her—and yet this accident has robbed her of the ability to work, earn, or job‑hunt for the foreseeable future.
As one of her closest friends, I want her to focus solely on healing and recovery, not the weight of financial burden. I’ve set up this GoFundMe to offer her the support she needs, even though she didn’t ask for it.
If you can contribute—even a small amount—you’ll help Krista breathe easier as she heals. And if you’re not in a position to donate, please consider sharing this link with friends and family. Your kindness, support, and amplification of these efforts would mean more than words can express. Let’s lift Krista up during this difficult time—and give her one less thing to worry about as she heals and learns to navigate her new normal.
Thank you for being part of her journey toward restoration and strength.
