Hi everyone,

We’re reaching out to ask for help for our dear friend Krista, a Woodstock native and mother for four young girls who’s currently hospitalized at Westchester while fighting a severe rejection of her liver transplant.

After years of managing acute liver failure, Krista underwent an emergency transplant on Halloween three years ago due to sepsis caused by an autoimmune disease called Primary Biliary Cholangitis. PBC is a condition in which the immune system attacks the liver bile ducts causing cirrhosis, and often total liver failure. Even after transplant surgery, people with PBC face lifelong health issues, risks of complications and often have to take a cocktail of drugs to prevent their body from attacking their new liver. After Krista’s transplant, she went into kidney failure and underwent dialysis for 5 months. Her kidneys are now functioning at just 70%.

In the past few months, Krista has had several transplant rejection scares and has been in and out of the hospital. Krista is now fighting ‘severe’ rejection. Before being hospitalized, Krista was already out of work for several weeks due to her illness, which caused her to lose her caregiver job. Unfortunately, this led to her falling behind on rent and household bills, and she’s now facing an incredibly difficult time trying to keep a home for her family.

Krista is incredibly humble and is the last person to ask for help. As friends, we’re doing all we can to try and create a safety net. We wanted to share Krista’s struggle with our community in hopes that you’ll join us in helping Krista and her girls during this tumultuous time. We’re hoping to help raise enough funds to help cover rent & bills for the next few months, and to ensure her family can make it through the holidays without the fear of losing their home.

Krista has always been someone who shows up for others. A devoted mother, a kind friend, and a fighter who faces every obstacle with strength and faith. Now, it’s our turn to show up for her.
