Reaching out for help for Kortesia, Kortesia is new mom of a handsome 4-week old baby boy(at the time) who has needed advanced medical attention since the day he was born. Kayson has been diagnosed with chronic lung disease and congenital athymia(no thymus),a thymus is an organ we are all born with right on top the heart, unfortunately Kayson wasn’t. A thymus protects us from infections and diseases so essentially Kayson doesn’t have an immune system. Needing to pay for gas for long drives, a place to stay near the hospital in case Kayson need more isolation then recently , and providing food are all things I don't want my niece to have to worry about while not working just yet due to her having to care for and be there for her newborn as a newly single parent. Kortesia is going back and forwards to Birmingham with her new baby for a 6 months at minimum until they are to relocate to NC hopefully in March 2025 and all the help and support would greatly appreciated. This move is for his transplant at Duke Medical the only place who does this surgery in the US at that! Canada is another option but we pray that they can do what they can here closer to home.
Any small amount helps and we extend our gratitude to anyone and everyone that is supporting our family through this.
Mr Kayson was moved out of neonatal intensive care in Huntsville Alabama and up into the children’s hospital of Birmingham August 21st to their neonatal intensive care unit , Kayson once was just on all the Ivs given through a pic in his arm but we are slowly getting back on track with his feeds. His hair is finally going back beautifully as well & he’s getting so strong and big! On top of that has since been able to act more like himself and be off so much sedation to keep him calm. We have went from complete ventilator support to him doing most the breathing on his own now amen! He’s been at about 23-30% ( we breath 21%)z Thank you all, from the picu/ nicu and Kayson’s care team for seeing after him , and the countless thoughts and prayers from everybody in the community behind us means so much to us
