September of 2020 I brought this amazing little girl into the world. Korra Marie Havert was born with unexpected breathing issues. This led to doctors running tests and sending her to the NICU. At three days old Korra was diagnosed with Mosaic Down Syndrome. For a single second I was terrified and then I said we can do this. Korra has over come every obstacle that has ever come her way.
March of 2025 her elbow became swollen and we took her to the ER. Doctors suspected arthritis which makes sense with family history. They give her Tylenol and steroids and the swelling goes away. May of 2025 sissy started getting low grade fevers. We suspected this was teething or the arthritis. May 10th Korra had a small red spot in her left armpit. She has eczema so I said let’s keep an eye on it and if it gets any worse we will take her in. May 12th that bump turned into a much larger knot. I immediately made an appointment that day. Her primary care doctor referred us to Promedica Children’s Hospital to have the now abscess drained. Many tests were ran. As doctors were concerned with her red and white blood cell count.
May 16th the surgery to remove the abscess was successful and Korra was diagnosed with B Cell Acute lymphatic leukemia. Doctors said it is curable and treatable. We quickly started her on her induction chemo.
June 2025 Korras bone marrow came back showing she is in remission and has no cancer cells in her spinal cord and bone marrow. Shortly after the good news, I noticed sissy seemed to be in severe abdominal pain. Several tests and scans later it was determined Korra had developed a bacterial infection in her stomach which ate a hole in it. She was quickly rushed to emergency surgery and placed on meds to repair the hole and fight the infection. Korra experienced complications and was placed on a ventilator. After two days doctors attempted to remove the vent and it failed. Korra wasn’t breathing on her own enough and the vent was placed back in. After another seven days the vent was successfully removed. She now had an NG tube to receive what pediasure she wasn’t consuming on her own.
June 18th Korra was cleared to go home! She was doing much much better. We were all so excited to be home after 38 long days at the hospital. We got a good routine going and settled into sissy being home.
June 25th 2025 Korra began throwing up and having severe diarrhea and the doctors had us bring her back in. She was admitted and they found air in the lining of her colon. She needed more meds. After a few days of meds Korra was feeling much better and was much more herself.
July 9th 2025 Korra once again began throwing up and had a fever that wouldn’t go away. Several more tests later the doctors have found that she has blood clots going to her brain, liver, lungs, sinuses, and bowel. They also found nodules in her stomach and lungs as well as pressure on her brain.
July 14th Korra had a biopsy done of the nodules. She is currently being treated for the blood clots and brain pressure. We are awaiting results from the nodules. Next week she will have a spinal tap to check the pressure on her brain as well as chemo. She will be starting her third phase of chemo oh a 28 day straight infusion she will have to have at all times.
I have never been more proud to watch my brave little girl laugh and smile through the worst possible scenarios. She is strong. She is a warrior. She’s got this #teamkorra
