Hello, I'm Khallid, but everyone calls me KJ. To start off, in 2017, I was struck by a drunk driver on the highway while my friend's car was broken down on the side of the highway. He struck us going 75 miles an hour. I was in the back seat when I was crushed inside the car. They had to cut me out with the jaws of life. I was rushed straight to the hospital where I flatlined a few times. Luckily, Grady Memorial Hospital was able to save my life. When I woke up, I could not feel my legs or my lower half or even move my body. I could only move my neck. I was so troubled and scared, wondering what was going on. When I finally calmed down, my mom explained to me that I was in a car accident, that I broke my neck, and that I was paralyzed. I couldn't believe it. I was sad for a month until I was granted a slot to go to the Shepherd Center, the number 1 Rehabilitation Center for people with spinal injuries. I spent four months there, and I was able to regain movement in my arms and started feeling my lower half. Before I left, I could move my left leg, feet, and toes.
I don't have some of the equipment that they have at the Shepherd Center, which is why I am making this GoFundMe to try and provide myself with some of the same exercise equipment or at least just one machine that they have so that I can keep on getting better. I don't wanna stay in this chair my whole life. I want to push myself and start my life over. Hopefully, people can read this, and if you can't donate, send motivational text messages to [phone redacted]. It is greatly appreciated.
