With Love for Kim: Support Her Fight Against Cancer

On behalf of Kimberly Garcia-Loya (21), we are asking for any donations to help cover her medical bills and travel expenses during this challenging time.

On April 30th, Kim was diagnosed with papillary thyroid carcinoma.

Kim is facing a long road ahead, and any support—financial, emotional, or spiritual—would mean the world to her and her loved ones.

We humbly ask that you keep Kim in your prayers during this time. Your prayers for healing, strength, and peace are deeply appreciated and give her hope and encouragement as she navigates this difficult journey. Kim is remaining positive and faithful.

Her journey began on February 20th, when she went to the hospital due to difficulty swallowing, along with neck and chest pain. At that time, she was diagnosed with a sore throat and advised to follow up with her primary care provider. The next day, she saw her primary doctor, who grew concerned after examining her neck and ordered an ultrasound.

The ultrasound, completed on February 28th, raised further concerns, leading to a recommendation for a biopsy.

On April 23rd, Kim underwent a biopsy. Just one week later, on April 30th, she was informed that she had cancer. She was advised to limit contact with others and stop working at Timberline PK-8 to protect her immune system. She was then referred to a cancer surgeon.

During a consultation on May 21st, the surgeon reviewed Kim’s earlier ultrasound and noticed abnormalities in nearby lymph nodes. A second ultrasound was immediately performed, confirming the concern, and a second biopsy was ordered. Her care was transferred to UC Health Anschutz in Aurora, which has significantly increased travel-related expenses, including gas and overnight stays.

Upcoming key dates in Kim’s care:

June 4th – Second biopsy to further investigate the abnormal lymph nodes.

June 5th – Appointment with a hematologist to discuss findings and determine next steps. Appointment canceled due to June 4th.

Update from June 6th:

June 4th- Kim was told by the surgeon that the cancer had moved to the lymph nodes. Because of this the surgeon will take her whole thyroid out instead of half of it. Nothing has been scheduled yet.
