My name is Stacey Storm. I live in the middle of Illinois, safe from hurricanes, flood waters and mudslides. I can drive to the grocery store to get food, turn on my tap to get water, flush my toilet, and sleep in the comfort of my home with electricity. Unfortunately, my dear friend Kim Kennedy who I have known for over 37 years, from Champaign, IL, lives in Asheville, NC with her family. Her home is up on the mountain. Access to her home was washed away along with many other roads in Asheville. She had to walk up the mountain to rescue her daughter and their fur babies. The road to her home is covered in trees tangled in power lines, deep crevasses and mud, lots of mud from all the flood waters. Rescuing her daughter was an incredible feat given all the obstacles they encountered going up and coming back down the mountain.
Food, water and gas are scarce. Helicopters are dropping supplies to the community, but there just isn't enough coming in for all who need it. The re-construction of the community and its infrastructure are going to take time to rebuild.
While waiting for infrastructure to be rebuilt, Kim and her daughter are currently homeless and finding housing is a huge priority. Rent in the area is a huge expense. Additionally, she needs basic supplies to be able to live. Everything she owns is in the house, at the top of the mountain, completely inaccessible.
Please, take a look around at what we all take for granted, (running water, water to drink, a place to shower, flushable toilets, cold food in the fridge, paved roads to travel, and places to buy the things you need, just to name a few) and consider donating to help support Kim and Taylor. Prayers are also being requested for Kim and Taylor, as well as for the town of Asheville, NC and the surrounding communities.
