Kewana’s Kidney Journey: A Story of Faith, Strength, and a Second Chance
My name is Kewana Gregory, and I am 44 years old. This is my journey—a journey of resilience, faith, and unwavering hope.
At just 16 years old, I was diagnosed with Lupus, an illness that would change my life forever. But even as a young mother balancing high school and the responsibilities of raising my baby, I refused to let it define me. I pushed through, determined to build a life filled with love and purpose.
Over the years, I became a mother to two more beautiful children and dedicated my career to caring for others as a childcare professional. Helping people—family, friends, even strangers—was my calling. Despite my own battles with Lupus, many never even knew I was fighting a chronic illness. I simply kept going, giving, and loving as best as I could.
Then, at 41, everything changed.
In April 2021, I became severely ill and was rushed to the hospital. After countless tests, I received heartbreaking news—Lupus had begun attacking my kidneys. I was in kidney failure. I needed emergency surgery to have a port placed in my chest and had to begin dialysis immediately.
At that moment, I felt like my strength had reached its limit. I had endured so much, but this? This was the hardest battle yet. Still, I held on to my faith. I knew God wasn’t finished with me.
Three days a week, I endured dialysis at a treatment center, facing pain I never imagined. I made the difficult choice to transition to home dialysis, where I had to administer my own treatments. When complications arose, I had yet another surgery and switched to peritoneal dialysis, a process that cleaned my blood through a tube placed in my stomach.
Even through this exhausting fight, I refused to give up. I had five beautiful grandchildren to live for! I did everything in my power to get on the kidney transplant list, adding my name to multiple lists across different states. I prayed, I waited, and I believed.
And then, my miracle came.
At 1:15 AM on March 19, 2025, Piedmont Atlanta called me with the words I had been praying for: “We have a kidney with your name on it.” I didn’t have to travel across the country—God made a way just 45 minutes from home.
At 10:27 AM that same day, I received my kidney transplant. My second chance. My answered prayer.
Now, I am in recovery, grateful beyond words but also facing new challenges. Medical bills, ongoing care, and daily expenses continue to add up. I have always been the one to help others, so asking for help is not easy for me. But today, I am humbly reaching out.
If you find it in your heart to support me—whether through a donation, a prayer, or simply sharing my story—I would be forever grateful. Anything you give will help ease the burden as I heal and embrace this new chapter of my life.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for being part of my journey. Thank you for your kindness, your love, and your prayers. I am living proof that God is always working, and miracles still happen.
With love and gratitude,
