I'm Kevin and a single half-time father of a terrific 7, 9 and 14 year old! On the last day of May 2024, I purchased a 2021 Nissan Rogue from Merchants Auto in Hookset, NH. Approximately one month later, I noted an odd buck from the car and also saw the engine temperature fluctuate, though never into a dangerous level. I checked the coolant and it was down a bit, so I refilled the reservoir and thought it was odd, but in contacting the Nissan dealership, was told that it happens sometimes and just needs to be refilled. Fast forward to Christmas time and the car was having more fluid leakage, although not externally that could be seen. Took it to three separate garages, the final being the Nissan dealership in Lebanon, NH, where all of them told me it needed a thermostat and coolant flush. I asked the Nissan dealership if they had done a pressure test and they told me that they had, with the flush being the answer. After more than $3000 into all of that, the Nissan dealership FINALLY did the pressure test and bore scope and found that there was coolant leakage into cylinder 2. They said it could be the head gasket or the head, but recommended an engine changeout at a HUGE price tag. I went for a second opinion at another garage and they tore down the engine and their only finding was a blown head gasket that they replaced. Upon picking up the car from the apparent repairs, it did not make it home and abruptly overheated and the engine shut down. That was another $2300 down. Unable to start it at all now, I've found a garage that is willing to tackle the engine changeout, however it is going to cost in excess of $5500, by estimate. With lots of needs for the kiddos and the money I've spent the past two months was all I had saved to support the household for the next month. As many know, my commercial photography job requires transportation and without the car I have no ability to get the work done. I have consulted an attorney regarding the situation, however it could be a year to see any return from that, if at all, and I need to get back to work to support the kiddos.
