Greetings! My name is Alex and I am here to share a story of one of my fellow employee's unfortunate situation. They are new to our organization (Holman) and new to the Midwest. I always believe people just need a hand up and that we are all in this world together. Kevin has never really had anyone go out of their way for him before. He has always had to deal with the stress and pressure of bills and living himself for his family. These medical bills raining down on him now while trying to maintain his job and new home out here just adds to the weight. My goal is to help relieve some of that stress for him and his family!
Here is his story:
"My name is Kevin Devora, recently me and my family experienced the most heartbreaking part of my life. My 2-year-old daughter (Yailyn) recently had a seizure and was rushed to the ER. She has never been sick before this moment. Being first time parents, we started noticing some weird things she started to do throughout the day; a little twitching and some signs of anxiety ticks with her hands at least that is what we had thought. The doctors had taken blood work and MRI tests to determine what was wrong, came to find out she had a small tumor in her head. The immediate feeling of dread, helplessness, and fear griped our hearts and absolutely shattered us thinking nothing good ever accompanies the word tumor. Diagnosed with Pilocytic astrocytoma even with these diagnoses being not major life threating. As a parent the idea of anything wrong with your child is concerning, let alone your 2-year-old child. We all had to wait for a week in the hospital for some kind of action. The tumor had continued to grow, and they needed to do surgery immediately. Friday, 10/11 her surgery was a success she is now on 24-hour monitoring for the next 6-12 weeks. My wife stepped away from her job for the time being so she could be with our daughter while I continue to come into work. Doing everything, we can to keep our jobs. With loss of my parents over the past couple years, we don’t really have anyone to help watch her currently. We have both made sacrifices to make sure one of us are always with her, as of now she is doing alright, some trouble sleeping at night and doctor’s visits twice a week. I thank God and everyone who has kept us in their prayers."
