Hi everyone, my name is Lucia Adler. I am Kelsey's mom. Kelsey is a young woman with a deep passion for science. She is currently enrolled full time in school studying physics, mathematics and computer science and she also works part time as a research scientist. Kelsey is one of the kindest, most compassionate human being that I know with unbridled love for life, and a deep desire to impact the world in her chosen field of science.

Recently Kelsey was diagnosed with a heart tumor caused by a rare genetic disorder (only 750 cases known in the world) which came as a complete shock to her and her family. Because this is such a rare condition, Kelsey was referred to the Cleveland Clinic for further management and for surgery to remove the tumor, as there are very few doctors in the US that know about this condition or know how to manage it. This genetic condition affects many organs in the body, but the most pressing one, at the moment, is the tumor in her heart. Because Kelsey only works part time, she has no paid medical or vacation leave. She will have to be off work with no income for at least 3 months (depending on the outcome of surgery), and she will also need to pay for travel and hotel accommodation, as she currently resides in New Mexico. She will also need help covering medical expenses such as coinsurance and deductible, which will be significant considering that she will have to be seen by many specialists.
