Hi everyone, my name is Keith Wilmot (Danny). I was diagnosed with Stage 4 advanced prostate cancer in May of 2023. I’ve had 12 surgeries since then, including a nephrostomy (two tubes coming out of my back going from my kidneys to bags on my legs). This was due to a blockage from cancer restricting my flow from my kidneys to my bladder. I actually went into renal failure. Every two months, I would have to have surgery to replace the stents and tubes. I had this for almost a year. I also had a chemo port surgically installed in my chest, only to be removed after 6 months. It never got used. I was misdiagnosed with bladder cancer, which is treated totally different than prostate cancer. The cancer on my bladder is part of the metastasized prostate cancer. My cancer is in my prostate, on my outer wall of my bladder, and in some pelvic lymph nodes. It is being treated with Xtandi pills ($15,000 a month), an Eligard shot every three months ($2,000-$3,000 per shot), and constant blood tests and scans ordered. I’ve come a long way in the last year due to my treatments, where it has shrunk the blockage enough to remove the nephrostomy. At first, it was internalized, and eventually, the internal stents were removed. I had to retrain my bladder because it wasn’t used in so long. I’ve also had a resection of the bladder and prostate and urinary tract augered out. I’m a patient of Cancer Center of Brevard and Moffitt located at the USF campus in Tampa. I carry insurance through my work as I continue to work full-time through all these medical treatments. I must admit it is hard because my testosterone has been cut off from my treatments, and my energy and strength, along with extreme fatigue, are a daily battle. My insurance has paid 80% in 2023 and 2024 until I met my out-of-pocket max. I’ve had hundreds of thousands of medical done, including 3 hospitalizations. This year, as of January 1st, my company has changed insurance companies. It is a form of Blue Cross/Blue Shield. They pay nothing for labs, X-rays, or scans until I reach my $5,000 deductible, then it’s 80% until I reach $6,350. The only thing covered is my Xtandi, and they wanted $5,000 on my part to receive a month’s supply. After going through many ropes, I got the manufacturer to pay my share, though it doesn’t go towards my deductible. I’ve found over the last couple of years my credit to be maxed out, and I barely make enough to pay my bills due to medical. My last doctor appointment was December 31 at the cancer center for my shot, the last day of my previous insurance coverage. I have upcoming appointments with the cancer center, which has ordered a full-body CT scan and bloodwork, along with my three-month shot. I also have an appointment at Moffitt in Tampa for more bloodwork and my oncologist there. I don’t want to lose Moffitt as they are hard to get into and saved my life once already. I do not have the money to pay for any of this and am therefore asking for any help I can get. I’ve already rescheduled many appointments because of my financial situation. I’m looking to meet my deductible so at least 80% will be paid for. I’ve been reluctant to do this but find myself with no other choice but to try. Thank you for listening, and any little bit would help. Have a great day! Danny
