Help a Loving Couple in Need: A Veteran and a Nurse Facing Medical and Financial Hardships

Dear friends, family, and kind-hearted strangers,

I am reaching out to ask for help for two incredible people who have dedicated their lives to serving others—Keith, a disabled Air Force Gulf War veteran, and Eva, a former ICU nurse who worked tirelessly through the COVID-19 pandemic, including serving on the frontlines in New York at the height of the crisis. They have spent their lives giving to their country, their patients, their children, and even animals in need. Now, they find themselves facing overwhelming medical and financial hardships and are in desperate need of support.

Their Story

Keith, a proud veteran, suffers from severe sarin poisoning from his time in Desert Storm, which affects every nerve and muscle in his body. He can barely walk with a cane and faces daily struggles with his health. Despite his limitations, he remains a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, always putting his family first.

Eva, a dedicated RN, has spent years working in ICU, caring for critically ill patients, and giving her all to save lives. She answered the call during the COVID-19 pandemic and worked in New York when hospitals were overwhelmed and desperate for help. However, over a year ago, she faced her own medical crisis. She developed a severe hernia that required surgery, but the damage was more extensive than anticipated, leaving her in need of a more invasive and risky procedure. During her pre-op evaluations, doctors discovered a major heart blockage that required emergency surgery to place several stents. She has been home recovering but is still unable to work.

Through it all, Eva has not been idle. She has been diligently working toward her nurse practitioner degree so that once she recovers, she can continue to serve her community in a clinical setting as an APRN. She is nearly finished with her studies, but the medical expenses, hospitalizations, and surgeries have taken a massive financial toll on their family.

To make matters worse, Keith was recently hospitalized for heart problems and narrowly avoided needing the same stent procedure Eva went through. Now, Eva is facing another major surgery next month to finally repair her hernia, which will require an extended hospital stay and recovery period.

Even with all of this going on, Eva and Keith continue to give back. Eva crochets hats for the homeless and NICU babies, ensuring warmth for those in need. Together, they also raise chickens for fresh eggs, which they primarily donate to elders in their community to help provide nourishment to those who may not always have access to fresh food.

Why They Need Help

Between mounting medical bills, loss of income, and continued household expenses, they are struggling to stay afloat. With two children still at home to support, their financial burden has become unmanageable. Eva never expected to be out of work for so long, and Keith’s disability limits his ability to provide financially.

Despite everything, they remain resilient, loving, and giving people, always putting others before themselves. But now, they need help.
