We're two working trans artists, Uil and Moss, seeking financial support for enduring several years of housing and job instability. We are dependent on our two vehicles, one as a work vehicle + backup housing and another as a daily driver, that are both older than 20 years and in need of repair. Currently the only vehicle that’s drivable is the ‘97 Ford Econoline, the oldest one with the worst mpg. This makes driving very difficult, expensive, and risky for us right now, and it will get worse as the weather gets colder. In order for us both to keep working and maintaining our lives, sending packages, tabling at cons and markets, getting to school and supplementing our incomes with other jobs, and to avoid getting stranded when the roads get icy, we really need to get our other vehicle to pass Oregon DEQ and to get it plated and registered ASAP.
Vehicles have been Uil's way of navigating housing and job instability since 2020, during exponentially growing transphobia in the United States. He accumulated multiple traffic tickets while car-bound and needs to pay these off so he can keep his license. Moss is currently unlicensed to drive and needs a working vehicle in order to practice.
We are currently housed, but rent is too high for us, we might lose our SNAP benefits, and the reality is that it’s extremely easy to become houseless again. We can’t afford to make these bigger expenses and make rent at the same time. For our financial autonomy and safety, we both need viable vehicles and drivers' licenses as soon as possible. Additionally we need funds for things like vet expenses for our dog Cooper, and to get our passports and documents updated.
Thanks for listening!
