Hi, my name is Scarlett, and I'm reaching out during one of the most difficult times my family and I have ever faced.
My partner and I have been struggling to find steady full-time work, and over the last three months, we’ve fallen significantly behind on bills. We’re now at risk of losing both of our vehicles—our only transportation—and we’re having a hard time keeping up with rent, groceries, and essential utilities like internet and phone service. Without these, it becomes even harder to search for jobs or take on remote freelance work.
I recently graduated from The Los Angeles Film School with my Bachelor of Science in Graphic Design. Since full-time graphic design jobs are limited here in Alaska, I’ve been actively applying to remote positions across the lower 48. Unfortunately, childcare has also become a barrier to local job opportunities—our two kids are home for the summer, and we can’t afford childcare right now.
To get by, I perform in drag shows on weekends and use those tips and show pay to cover groceries and whatever bills I can—but it’s not enough to sustain a household. My mom and a few close friends have helped when they can, and I was even loaned money for May rent, which I’ll need to repay by October. But with $1,813 in past due bills and July rent ($1,275) coming up fast, we’re overwhelmed and running out of options.
We’re doing everything we can to get back on track. I’m applying to every opportunity I can find, and I’m also open to freelance design work. If you or someone you know needs a designer, I’d love to connect.
Our goal with this fundraiser is to:
Catch up on past due bills (car payments, insurance, internet, and phone)
Cover July rent to avoid eviction
Afford groceries to feed our family during this time
Anything helps—whether donating or simply sharing this with others. Thank you so much for reading, supporting, and keeping us in your thoughts. It truly means the world right now.
With gratitude,
Scarlett
