My name is Rob, and I’m an addict—a grateful addict in recovery.

Many of you may know me from the various places I’ve worked as a bartender, while others may know me from the events I’ve organized benefiting local and national LGBTQ charities.

Over the past few years, my addiction took control of my life. I lost the ability to hold a job, take care of my responsibilities, and even celebrate the good moments. Eventually, I hit rock bottom—homeless, jobless, and deep in active addiction.

After months of struggling to quit on my own, I made the decision to check myself into a residential treatment program. By the grace of God, I am now 8 months clean and sober. I’ve secured stable employment and am about to move into my own place—something I couldn’t have imagined a year ago.

Now, I’m facing one last major obstacle: getting my car fixed.

During my addiction, I relied heavily on my car, and in the process, I blew a head gasket. While I was in treatment, I had it repaired, but a month later, it blew again—causing even more damage. After taking it to a trusted mechanic, I learned that the repairs will cost over $3,500. Unfortunately, my past addiction left me with poor credit, making a loan impossible.

Why this is so important:
This car is more than just transportation—it’s my way to get to work, attend recovery meetings, and stay on track with my new life. Without it, my stability is at risk.

I’ve been working hard to rebuild, but I’ve come up short on funds and don’t have enough time to earn the money before my move. If I leave the car sitting too long in street parking, it risks being towed—creating an even bigger financial setback.

How you can help:
I’m reaching out to my community because I truly don’t know what else to do. Any contribution, no matter how small, would mean the world to me. And if you can’t donate, sharing this with others would be just as helpful.

I hate asking for help, but I know I can’t do this alone. I am also willing to work for any financial support—if you have odd jobs, side gigs, or any opportunities, please reach out.

This is the last major hurdle standing between me and fully getting back on my feet. I am beyond grateful for any support you can provide.

Thank you for believing in me and being part of my journey.
