From Jordacheia's heart!

My name is Jordacheia Lewis, and I am writing during the most heartbreaking and fragile moment of my life. I have recently been diagnosed with stage 4 kidney and liver cancer, and my doctors have told me that my time may now be down to only days. Each appointment brings news that is harder to accept, and I am slowly coming to terms with the reality that my body is failing.

I was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. My mother had seven children, and we lost her to this same devastating cancer. My aunt passed from it as well. Much of my childhood was spent in DFACS custody, moving from home to home, always searching for stability, love, and a place where I truly belonged. When I became a mother to my one and only daughter, I promised her that she would never grow up feeling the way I once did. I worked hard to build a stable, safe, and loving life for her something I never had.

But this illness came without warning and has taken everything from me far sooner than I ever imagined. I did not have life insurance, and with my health declining rapidly, I no longer have the means to prepare for my own final arrangements. My daughter, who is doing her best to care for me while also attending school, is now facing the overwhelming burden of trying to handle everything on her own. It breaks my heart to know she is carrying this weight at such a young age.

We have begun making arrangements with Donald Trimble Mortuary in Decatur, where the total cost is $9,000. This is far more than my daughter can manage alone. I am reaching out, humbly and with the little strength I have left, to ask for help.

If you feel moved to assist, donations can be made directly to the funeral home for transparency and peace of mind. Any amount large or small would help relieve the tremendous pressure on my daughter and allow her to grieve without the added fear of how she will lay her mother to rest.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story, for your compassion, and for any support you may be able to give. Your kindness would mean more to us than words can express.

With deepest appreciation,
Jordacheia Lewis

My sweet goddaughter, "Jody" Lewis, whom I brought into my home and heart on her 16th birthday along with her newborn baby girl to keep the foster care system from separating mother and child. Jody never gave me one day of trouble and is one of the sweetest and kindest people you could ever meet. Her parents both died when she was very young. Jody is now 38 and facing one of her biggest fights. She’s been diagnosed with Stage 4 kidney cancer, which is so hard on her body. I am asking if we can help Jody keep her car and insurance (and uncovered medical expenses), which her daughter uses to transport her to all her doctor’s appointments and treatments. Jody is no longer able to work nor fully take care of herself. She’s waiting for her SS disability check to kick in, but we have scraped together all we can to help keep her car, insurance, and phone. Her daughter works part-time, takes care of her mom, and is in her last year as a full-time college student. Mom prays to live and beat the cancer but is hoping to see her only child graduate. Please donate what you can, and I have lived long enough to know you will be blessed for your giving and showing of loving kindness.
