Greetings, webcomic fans!
We are a group of extremely talented individuals with multiple skills and years of experience doing the things we love more than anything: creating comics and webcomics. As the years have gone by, we find ourselves surrounded by an absolute morass of projects, artists, and writers – all attempting to find their own place on the global stage. And while it’s been daunting to meet this challenge, we find that the competition has favored us with the motivation to go above and beyond – to create and maintain webcomics with incredible stories and artwork that entertain and delight.
But allow us an introduction! We want you to know who we are and what we bring to the world.
Who we are:
Paul Driggere (Paul) – The brains behind the outfit. A multi-talented screenwriter with past experience with Walt Disney Studios and Warner Brothers Animation. Author of several short stories, a novel, and co-writer for three webcomics, “The Depths”, “Insignificant Otters” and “Island Girls”.
P.A. Amaras – (Paula) – The co-creator/writer for “The Depths”, “Insignificant Otters” and “Island Girls.” Her credits include literally hundreds of short stories, professional blogs for American Greetings, and the main writer behind “Shadows in Light”, with six sequels on the way.
Jim N. Jimenez – (Jim) A fabulous artist behind several comic projects worldwide. Current artist on “Insignificant Otters”. His credits in animation and graphic art include, “Biker Mice From Mars”, “Disney’s The Gummi Bears”, “X-Men”, and several others. He’s worked for Walt Disney Pictures, DIC Animation, Marvel, and others. A true celeb!
Ralph Del Mundo – (Cycrone) Extremely gifted artist behind the classic comic, “Rock n Roll Diesel Zombies” and current artist on “Island Girls”. He also has credits in television and film, including artwork for the hit TV series, “Fargo”. His latest work is “Niveous”.
Why We’re Seeking Funds:
If it’s not obvious by now, a group of older people like us, as successful as we were in the past, simply are struggling these days. It’s been rough getting full-time or even part-time jobs doing what we really love simply because the big-time employers see us as “too seasoned”. They want younger minds and bodies, that can work for decades to come. They don’t give us much of a chance at all to impress anyone.
So, we want to offer our skills and multiple talents to you, our supporters and readers. By helping us, our GoFundMe serves as a monthly payroll, to give our wonderful artists incentive to create every single month. And as the monthly goals are stretched, we intend to bring in even more artists, create more comics, to give people jobs working through Scribes Unlimited Press , and getting paid well for their efforts.
Your monthly donations go solely to maintaining our webcomic websites, paying our artists for comic creations, and other art projects and expenses as needed, such as advertising, promotions, etc. While we could have arranged everything through a Patreon, we felt that we couldn’t offer much in the way of rewards – and not seem unique.
Of course, the rewards here are quite valuable: Our continued efforts to create comics every month, introduce brand new comics to the fold, and provide a way to share our adventures with you all, through social media, streaming platforms, printed copies, etc. (but we’ll also throw in cameos now and then!)
Our Current Projects:
“The Depths” – A very popular adult “furry” webcomic featuring South Pacific sea otters involved in danger and romance above and below the ocean.
“Insignificant Otters” – A hilarious comic strip about two shipwrecked otaku-type otters named Emma and Kevin on a deserted island and faced with the impossible task of getting along without killing each other.
“Island Girls” – A tropical delight about women on the island of 1940 Bora Bora, and their adventures of romance, mystery and danger.
UPCOMING PROJECTS:
“Niveous” – An incompetent young legacy of a great Void Slayer family accidentally kills one of the most powerful demons that takes the form of a sentient jacket. Hijinks ensue as an uncanny friendship forms between Ryllis and the Void artifact Niveous.
“Currents” – A deep-sea exploration group of 20-somethings is hurtled into another dimension, on a world where water covers everything – and danger and comedy are frequent.
“Horrors” – Paying homage to the great horror anthology comics of the old days, like “Tales of the Crypt”, “Weird Tales”, “Vault of Horror”, and others, “Horrors” will present spine-tingling stories and captivating artwork.
“Torpedo Vixens” – A treasure for underwater art fans, this tells the tale of several female foxes involved in love, drama and the spirit of competition in the Underwater Torpedo League.
"Luana" - Our newest addition to our comic aspirations, Luana tells the tale of a South Pacific island princess during the turn of the 20th century facing romance and danger, as she tries to solve a deep-sea mystery.
To date, we estimate more than $40,000 in personal funds have gone into realizing our dreams since 2017. As we’ve gotten older, and with no real structured income apart from freelance projects between us, it’s tougher to keep things going. How we would love to be able to count on your support for all our work, so that we can still live comfortably and pay for food, house payments/rent, utilities and related expenses. Not having to worry about being paid for work each month? It just takes so much pressure from all of us!
We don’t mind saying this but we were very timid about making this appeal to the world. It’s always difficult, sometimes impossible, for someone to break down and ask for help. We applaud each and everyone who uses GoFundMe for their courage and honesty, and we wish nothing but the best of success for them all.
Our Current Needs: (What we would like to achieve every month)
Two pages of “The Depths”: $400
Two pages of “Insignificant Otters”: $200
Two pages of “Island Girls”: $300
Administrative Costs for Websites: $100
Advertising/Marketing Costs: $150
Total: $1200.00
Our Stretch Goals:
We’ve thought about how we could do this and be fair to everyone. These are the rewards we want to share with you all the most – more pages of our current comics, PLUS the creation of BRAND-NEW comics!
That said, we will not keep a schedule on when pages will come out and how often. That will be solely dependent on the funds we raise from devoted donators. Each month, we would need a certain influx of funds to quantify each month’s production – essentially, you are our bosses! We produce what you pay us to do. So, our “stretch goals” would mean what we could do in a given month based on the contributions received.
Currently, if we reach $1200 in a given month, we would be able to meet our current goal as mentioned above. So, this is what could happen in a month we go OVER that figure:
If we had a month where we reached $1500, we would create a third page of “Insignificant Otters”, so instead of two pages that month, we could create three pages. For every month we continued to cross $1500, we could continue to create three pages of the comic, but that’s just the beginning!
If we have a month where we cross $1800 in a month, we would create a third page of “Island Girls”, so instead of two pages that month, we could create three pages. For every month we continue to cross $1800, we could continue to create three pages of the comic! Three pages of heavenly South Pacific beauties facing love and danger on the land and in the sea! But there’s still more, right?
If we have a month where we cross $2200 in a month, we would not only be able to continue creating three pages of “Insignificant Otters” and “Island Girls”, (along with the continuing two pages of “The Depths”), but we could then start the creation of other comic titles! The first one would be “Niveous”, and we could create two pages of that comic for every month we continue to bring in $2200.
If we have a month where we cross $2800 in a month, along with the three pages of “Insignificant Otters” and “Island Girls”, the two pages of “The Depths” and “Niveous”, we can then begin another BRAND-NEW comic project, “Currents”, and create two pages of this comic for every month we continue to cross $2800.
If we have a month where we cross $3200 in a month, along with the three pages of “Insignificant Otters” and “Island Girls”, the two pages of “The Depths”, “Niveous”, and “Currents”, we can hire another artist and begin ANOTHER BRAND-NEW comic, “Torpedo Vixens”, and create two pages of the comic for every month we cross $3200.
If we have a month where we cross $3800 in a month, along with the three pages of “Insignificant Otters” and “Island Girls”, the two pages of “The Depths”, “Niveous”, “Currents”, and “Torpedo Vixens”, we can hire yet another artist and begin YET ANOTHER BRAND-NEW comic, “Horrors”, and create two pages for every month we should cross $3800.
If we have a month where we cross $4200 in a month, along with the three pages of “Insignificant Otters” and “Island Girls”, the two pages of “The Depths”, “Niveous”, “Currents”, and “Torpedo Vixens”, two pages of "Horrors" we can hire one more artist and begin YET ANOTHER BRAND-NEW comic, “Luana”, and create two pages for every month we should cross $4200.
If we have a month where we should just happen to cross past $5000?
Well, along with the three pages of “Insignificant Otters” and “Island Girls”, the two pages of “The Depths”, “Niveous”, “Currents”, “Horrors”, and “Torpedo Vixens”, what else can we do…?
Plenty, if we do it for others. Any funds left over after paying our artists would go into a special fund we earmark for other artists with special needs. We want to help others just as much as people help us, so we’ll form a non-profit entity under the Scribes Comics name and become a charity organization that gives emergency funds to artists with particular needs, such as living expenses, unexpected bills, equipment replacement, etc.
We’re ready, are you?
So, there’s a lot of promise of great things to come, if you consider us as a monthly donation. We hope you will. It's very easy to do. Simply choose to provide "recurring" monthly donations, as much or as little as you like!
We have a wealth of entertainment we want to bring to the world, and wouldn’t it be awesome if you’re reading this right now and thinking, “I could be a part of all of this!”
Thanks for visiting and have a great day!
