Hi, my name is Eden. I am a trans woman. On August 14th, my girlfriend (also a trans woman) and I moved from Florida to Washington State to flee Florida and Ron DeSantis' restrictive bans and policies against trans adults, including a bathroom ban, a felony charge for having a changed gender marker on driver's licenses, and a near-total ban on gender-affirming healthcare like estrogen, spironolactone, and progesterone. We are also both autistic and adhd with high support needs.
We moved in with a childhood friend of mine, and we were staying in their apartment on good faith, off the record, with no legal or written agreements protecting us, because I thought we could trust her. Today, November 11th, 5 days after the election resulted in Trump's victory, who has promised to relentlessly persecute trans people nationwide, she decided that we cannot live here anymore. So much so, that we are being kicked out this week. We have to be out of this apartment within 7 days.
We have applied to an apartment that is technically within our budget in the long term, but due to the surprise of having to leave immediately, we are financially strained. I have no car and have to walk to work or take the very unreliable buses, and so I unfortunately have to move in nearby. The lowest cost we could find was a base rent of $1799 for a 750 sqft 1-bed apartment, and we applied to that unit, which luckily has immediate availability.
We have no savings, we have very little in our checking accounts, and beyond initial fees, we are short more than $1000 on our first and second payments at the new apartment (if our application is approved, the holding fee/security deposit was charged today for $300 as well as application fees which were $46 for each of us). We have a total combined checking account balance of $278, and have to pay $1938 within 2 weeks of moving in on November 14th, and we pay $2044 in rent for December on December 4th. Please please help us get over our initial goal of $1000, ANY amount you can donate helps us massively. In between now and our first rent payment, we will get $900 and $884 respectively for our second paychecks of the month from work. Currently, our budget sheet has us both $200 negative from 11/14-11/22, and then $1000 negative from 12/04 until 12/20.
