Help My Mom Get Back on Her Feet

Hi, my name is Jared, and I’m creating this fundraiser for my mom, Angela. She’s always been strong, independent, and hardworking, but the last few years have taken a huge toll on her health and finances.

Mom has battled multiple medical problems, including two heart attacks within the last three years, COPD, and peripheral artery disease, for which she’s already had several stents placed. Despite her best efforts, she’s no longer able to work outside the home. When her employer wouldn’t approve her ADA request to work remotely, she was forced to resign.

She later learned that during her 11 years with that employer, they didn’t pay into Social Security (only into a retirement plan) and because of that, she doesn’t qualify for disability benefits, even though she has more than enough work credits overall. On top of this, due to the current government shutdown there is a chance she will not be able to receive food stamps for the next month.

She’s tried hard to find legitimate work-from-home jobs, but at her age and with her health challenges, it’s been difficult to get hired. In the meantime, she’s fallen behind on rent and utilities and is now at risk of losing her housing. She’s terrified of becoming homeless or having her utilities shut off.

My brothers and I have helped as much as we possibly can. Other family members have also stepped in before, but everyone’s resources are stretched thin.

Mom has always been the one to give to others; family, friends, even strangers. Now she’s struggling deeply with depression because she feels like she’s failed when, in truth, she’s done everything she can.

We’re reaching out to ask for help from anyone who can spare it, no matter how small. Every dollar will go directly toward rent, utilities, and basic living expenses while she continues to work with Social Security and search for other ways to earn income from home.
