This fundraiser is made in support of a family that seeks political asylum in the U.S. following their March 2022 escape from the war in Ukraine. My family met Nik, Iryna, and their one-year-old son, Luka, in spring of 2023, shortly after their arrival to Los Angeles endorsed through Uniting for Ukraine (U4U). Since fleeing the military occupied Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia, they have come to understand that returning to their home country is unrealistic.

Unfortunately, U4U is only a temporary solution. Your donation will be used solely to fund the legal advocacy necessary for this family to remain and work in the United States under permanent resident status. Nik is also hopeful that gaining this new legal status will aid in reunification with his father and twelve-year-old daughter, Mira, who are still seeking refuge from the war.
