Donate to Keep a Family Cool This Summer

I really hate that I have to do this. Asking for help feels uncomfortable, and I’ve gone back and forth about whether to post this at all. But I’m at a point where I don’t have many other options.

Over the past few weeks, my air conditioner has been slowly dying, and today I got the final word: it’s dead. I need an entirely new unit, which will cost around $7,000. The one I have now is over 30 years old, so I guess it was just a matter of time. I had two different people look at it, and both said the same thing, there’s no fixing it.

I live in Louisiana. It’s already miserably hot, and it’s only going to get worse. I have a couple of fans and a small window unit in the living room, but it’s just not enough, especially with kids in the house.

I don’t have savings. My bank account is in the negative. I’m already behind on bills. I’m trying to pick up extra shifts, but I’m still trying to study for boards and can’t work as much as I’d like because I need childcare over the summer. When I broke my heel a year and a half ago and was out of work, I burned through everything I had saved. Financing isn’t an option because my credit is also horrible. I’m still searching for a midwife job, but even once I get hired, credentialing can take months.
