Thank you for considering helping our family during such a vulnerable and challenging time. My name is Anthony Duran, and I am the older brother of my loving, caring, selfless sister, Kayla. I have created this GoFundMe to help aid her in covering the costs of procedures related to her recent cancer diagnosis.

On June 6th, doctors were alarmed by what they found while going for what she thought would be a regular checkup. A few weeks and several tests later, Kayla was diagnosed with late Stage 1 cervical cancer. The doctors believe they have found the 7cm tumor just in time for removal, as cancer has not been detected beyond the cervix at this point. There is an 80% chance this hysterectomy will remove all cancer, with a 20% chance she will need radiation and chemo afterward. This is a battle that will leave Kayla unable to bear a child.

While we are grateful to have such good odds at beating this cancer, our family is heartbroken by this loss for her. Being such a good aunt to her niece and nephews for the past 16 years, plus studying child development in college, we all believed in the wonderful mother Kayla would someday make.

Thankfully, we live in an era with modern reproductive technology and have access to programs that help cancer patients freeze eggs to maintain a future with options. However, the programs only give so much aid, and most fertility costs are not covered by insurance. Kayla has been working with a team at HRC Fertility to find out what she will need to harvest eggs and keep the possibility of having a child via surrogacy in the future. This is a time-sensitive, financially pressing part of her treatment process, requiring a substantial down payment for egg retrieval and storage that needs to happen before radiation can begin.

Kayla has given so much of her life in service to others. From volunteering and making meals for those in need to being there for friends and family at the drop of a dime in their time of need. This is our opportunity to be there for her.
