Hello,

My name is Kat McNew, and today I’m reaching out on behalf of my family to share the story of someone very dear to us, my sister-in-law, Kate.

Just a month ago, on what felt like a typical Sunday, our world was turned upside down when Kate was diagnosed with a meningioma, a brain tumor.

Kate is so much more than this diagnosis. She is a devoted wife, a phenomenal mother of two young girls, and one of the most caring people you could ever meet. Her days are filled with laughter, creativity, and love, whether she’s sewing costumes, reading stories, or making up games with her daughters. She has a gift for making ordinary moments magical, leaving lasting memories that her children will carry with them forever.

On top of being a loving mom and wife, Kate is also a talented photographer. She and my brother run a small photography business, capturing childhood milestones with care and creativity. But right now, that business and their livelihood have been put on hold.

After years of unexplained symptoms, Kate finally went to the ER when one challenging day became too much to ignore. There, doctors discovered a 4 cm tumor pressing on the motor function part of her brain. Surgery was scheduled immediately. While the surgeons were able to remove much of the tumor, not all of it could be taken out. Now Kate faces weeks of daily radiation treatments, along with physical therapy to help regain mobility on the left side of her body, which remains numb since surgery.

This means that both Kate and my brother are unable to work. Between medical bills, daily travel to the hospital, and the cost of caring for their daughters, the financial stress is overwhelming. They’re doing everything they can, but this is a mountain no family should have to climb alone.

Kate would never ask for help herself; she has always been the one giving her time, love, and talents to others. But I can see how the weight of these expenses is adding another layer of worry to an already difficult journey. From across the country, this is one way I can step in: by asking for your help.

No contribution is too small. Your support could cover a tank of gas to get Kate to treatment, a meal for her family after a long hospital day, groceries for her girls, or a utility bill to keep their home running. Every gift—whether big or small—eases a part of their burden and reminds them they’re not facing this alone.
