Hi, my name is Karrie. Three months ago , I was diagnosed with colon cancer at the splenic flexure — a rare and challenging spot to treat. I’ve always been healthy, active, and hard-working, but this diagnosis turned my life upside down.

I’ve completed four rounds of chemotherapy to shrink the tumor before surgery, and now I’m scheduled for major robotic colon surgery on August 20th. While I’m hopeful for a cure, the process is intense, and the recovery will be long. I’ve had to take time off work and face mounting out-of-pocket costs for appointments, scans, lab work, supplements, special food, and daily expenses.

Update❤️ 09/22/2025 so relieved and grateful to share that all those questionable spots they found have come back benign! My surgery went really well, and I’m recovering as expected. I still have 8 more rounds of chemotherapy ahead, but this milestone gives me so much hope and strength. Thank you to everyone for your love, support, and encouragement—it truly makes a difference

“Update” !!! on My Journey 08/20/2025

Recently, my doctors discovered new findings that have changed my treatment path. What was originally thought to be a localized colon cancer has now shown signs of spreading within the peritoneum (the lining of the abdomen). This means my case is more complex than we first hoped.

Because of this, my team is now considering a highly specialized procedure called CRS-HIPEC (Cytoreductive Surgery with Heated Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy). This is an aggressive but potentially life-extending surgery that involves removing visible tumors in the abdomen, followed by heated chemotherapy directly in the belly to kill microscopic cancer cells. It is a long and difficult surgery, but for patients like me, it may offer the best chance at controlling the disease.

All of this comes with many unknowns — more appointments, more testing. The financial strain of missed work, ongoing medical bills, and preparing for the possibility of major surgery has been heavy.

Update from My Doctors !!! 08/28/2025

I wanted to share the latest update after my case was reviewed at the tumor board. My doctors came together to discuss the best treatment plan moving forward. After carefully reviewing all my scans and biopsy results, they decided that there isn’t enough evidence at this time to move ahead with the bigger surgery (CRS-HIPEC). Instead, the plan is to go forward with my colon surgery as scheduled.

Originally this surgery was going to be robotic, but the team decided an open surgery would be best so they can carefully check and test the suspicious areas that showed up on imaging. This way, they can get a clearer picture of what’s really going on and make sure nothing is missed.

This news is a mix of relief and uncertainty, but I’m trusting my doctors and focusing on the next step: getting through surgery and recovery. I’m so grateful for the team working hard on my case, and even more grateful for all of you who continue to support me through this rollercoaster. Your generosity and encouragement mean more than words can say. ❤️
