It was a long journey that started ninety days ago when we arrived at the hospital in Elmira, New York. We were in that hospital for about 2 weeks, and they realized that they did not have the capability of taking care of Karen. She had an autoimmune disease and scleroderma, which is scarring tissue of the lungs. We also knew she was gonna need a lung transplant. Fast forward a little bit, Karen is in an ambulance and taking a 5-hour ambulance ride to the Bronx, New York, unknown what they're gonna do for us. But after many weeks, many tests, and preparing for a lung transplant, one finally came in.
Here we are, day 6 after surgery. We have a long road ahead of us, but she is doing amazing. So, the requirements of getting this lung transplant in the Bronx is we're going to have to live an hour and a half away from the hospital. So, we are going to be moving in with Karen's uncle Jimmy; he lives in New Jersey. My job was kind enough to help me pay my bills for 3 months, but next month is gonna be a little struggle because I have to stay by her side. If friends and family could, please help us out, anything will help.
